Itinerary

  1. Day 1
    Tbilisi – Ananuri – Gudauri – Gveleti Waterfalls – Kazbegi

    Driving ~4 hours + light hiking ~1.5 hours. Easy. Travel along the old Military Highway and explore the 16th–17th-century Ananuri Castle Complex. A first small hiking trip to Gveleti Waterfalls — easy walk, short distance, good views. Overnight at a guesthouse in Kazbegi.

  2. Day 2
    Kazbegi – Gergeti Trinity Church – Gergeti Glacier – Kazbegi

    Hiking ~7–8 hours. Medium. Distance 16 km, starting elevation 1,740 m, maximum elevation 3,100 m. The hardest but most beautiful part of your trip to Kazbegi. Gergeti Trinity Church (14th century) sits at 2,167 m below the summit of Mt. Kazbegi. This day offers mountain landscapes with glaciers, lush alpine meadows, mountain rivers, and panoramic views over the Greater Caucasus. Overnight at a guesthouse in Kazbegi.

  3. Day 3
    Kazbegi – Juta – Chaukhi Pass – Kazbegi

    Hiking ~7–8 hours. Medium. Distance 15 km, starting elevation 2,100 m, maximum elevation 3,400 m. Explore the scenic beauty of the Juta valley and the Chaukhi mountainous massif. The hike runs deep into the Greater Caucasus, crossing small mountain rivers, hills, and rocks. After ~8 km you reach Chaukhi Pass, where amazing views open onto the Khevsureti region. In good weather you can also see the three colorful Abudelauri lakes. Overnight at a guesthouse in Kazbegi.

  4. Day 4
    Kazbegi – Truso Valley – Tbilisi

    Hiking ~7–8 hours. Easy. Distance 20 km, starting elevation 2,150 m, maximum elevation 2,200 m. Travel to the Truso Valley — a plain gorge surrounded by high mountains, famous for its mineral waters, travertines, mineral lake, abandoned fortresses, and villages. Drive back to Tbilisi in the evening.
